It measures 15" x 15" and is made of top-quality cotton. The pieces are fused in place, then buttonhole stitched around using matching cotton thread. All the thread tails are drawn to the back and rethreaded through the existing stitching to prevent and unraveling. It would make a great pillow, wall hanging or the start of something larger. There has always been blue jays and doves with an occasional Florida parrot. It was so very exciting to me when a Cardinal showed up. But all of a sudden, two weeks ago, 4 little green birds decided to pig out at my feeder. I believe they are warblers, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. In addition to these sweet little green birds, there is also a Painted Bunting that has been showing up regularly. From all that I have read, they are migrating to South America, but I think they have found a home on my feeder, because they are there morning, noon and early evening.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6958622144361863320.post-78845929793097254672023-12-03T08:34:00.007-05:002023-12-03T08:34:57.659-05:00Log Cabin in the Woods Applique Quilt Block

Have you ever tried to make a masculine quilt? The packing up and checking the room to make sure you haven't left something behind, always makes me sad. None of us were in the mood to get dressed and schlep out for breakfast, so room service was a good idea, especially since the breakfast menu was pretty good. I have had room service many times in my life and its always the same, the waiter brings the food on a big tray and leaves it, end of story. But this was something a little different and was a big surprise. That surprise was the waiter, a British chap by the name of Martin. He set a fancy table and made a big production of it. He told us of his service to the Queen, (yes Elizabeth not Cinderella) and his two years in butler school. He went on to tell us of all his adventures and how he ended up a server in Disneyworld. I really cant tell you if all his stories were real or just made up, but he sure did entertain us and brightened our morning. Thank you Martin, for making checking out not so bad.
There was lots of steamed clams, crab legs and shrimp, with a whole lot of side dishes.
So on day 3, Adam, Tina, Alli and I went to the Magic Kingdom. We had no plans on where to go or what to see so we headed to our "go to" ride Buzz Lightyear. It was Sunday of the Labor Day weekend and the park was very crowded.

Next ride up was the race cars. I sat that one out but completely enjoyed chatting with a group of children from Indiana. They were excited to tell me all about their adventures and I just love to see the joy on kids faces.

We kind of wandered around aimlessly until we discovered a new roller coaster, Seven Dwarfs something or other. Did I mention that because of the trouble we had on the first day, we were given a bunch of fast passes. We did not have to wait for any rides at the Magic Kingdom. Lastly we went to our other favorite, Pirates of the Caribbean, love that silly ride.

One last photo op....

and we decided it was just too crowded and crazy.

There was no waiting at this point put it did start to rain as we entered the park. By the time we made it over to The Tower of Terror it was raining more than a drizzle. Adam wheeled me into a small alcove by the entrance where I waited about 45 minutes for them. One thing I really like about Disneyworld is that you can feel free to start up a conversation with just about anyone. I chatted with folks from around the country while I waited.

Alli and Tina then wanted to go on the Rockin Rollercoaster, but Adam did want to leave me to just sit for another hour. So he wheeled me on over to the Star Tours attraction. There was almost no wait and we breezed right through.

The girls were still on line so Adam and I went over to the Toy Story ride. Again there was almost no waiting and we got right on. We had so much fun trying to outscore each other, we laughed and laughed. He beat me in the points.

It was getting close to 9PM so we headed to the see the light show in front of the Chinese theater. We finally met up with the girls when the show was over. We headed for the parking lot, when the fireworks show started up. We made it to the car where we sat and watched the show.

What and exhausting day.

They went on some of the big slides while I took the lazy river.

Tina and Nick met us a little later on, and we all took a downhill raft ride. One more cruise around the park in the lazy river before we got ready to leave. The afternoon was completed with our favorites of funnel cakes and mini donuts. I got a little sunburned.

There was a problem with our tickets and it took an hour and a whole lot of phone calls to get it straightened out. It was hot and there was a huge crowd.
Trying to get someone to help us was difficult but I was most shocked when one of the Disney employees told us "I hope you have nothing but long lines all day". WOW, I wish I had gotten her name.
We finally got in and headed straight for Pandora and got on line for the Banshee ride.

I have to tell you that it was the BEST ride ever. I cannot say it enough how much I loved riding a banshee through the floating mountains of Pandora. If you are ever lucky enough to make it there, don't miss it.
It was pretty clear that I was not going to be able to walk much further. So my family got me a wheelchair and pushed me around for the next few days. It was great for me (I didn't hurt) and great for them (they didn't have me to slow them down.)
That day we also spent a lot of time on lines. We did the Cali River raft (a terrible long, hot line) with no fans and no way to go forward or backwards. We also did the new Navi Ride. It was nice, much like the Pirates of the Caribbean.
By then we were pooped and went back to the hotel.
I was looking forward to it as it might be the last time all 6 of us will be together. The one thing I really wanted to do this time was to see Pandora at the Animal Kingdom.
Last June was my 70th birthday. For a gift, my son gave me a 4 day, all parks pass for Disneyworld. I was so excited, the day couldn't come fast enough.
Fast forward to Thursday August 31 and we were on our way.

We picked up Adam and Alli in West Palm Beach (Tina and Nick would come later in their own car) and made it there without incident. We checked in, went to the room, then Adam, Alli and I went to Publix to stock up on food for the stay. We made it back to the room unloaded and put all the food away and let the party begin.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6958622144361863320.post-7907346338867934462016-11-22T17:49:00.000-05:002016-11-22T17:49:06.756-05:00Homemade Chicken SoupMy Mom was a terrible cook. But one of the few rare things she made that I loved was her chicken soup. You might wonder why I would make a post about making homemade chicken soup when there is a zillion recipes and how to on the Internet. I am writing this because I recently saw a post on Facebook where the gal was so proud that she was making "homemade chicken soup" and show a picture of Swanson's chicken broth and she added chopped celery and carrots. Cal me a snob, but you need a chicken to make chicken soup.
So here's mine.
Start with a large pot, filled with filtered or bottled water.

To it, add a ....what else ...chicken

Be sure to rinse off the chicken and remove that bag of yuk from the cavity.

Then add chopped celery, onions, garlic, carrots, tomatos and parsley.

I bring the whole mess to a boil and let it simmer for 2 - 4 hours (depending on what else I might be doing. And this is where I differ from Mom and everyone else. I strain all the liquid out and cool off the chicken (which is falling apart at this point) and let it all cool off. I put the cleaned off pieces of chicken and some of the vegetable in a blender. I try hard to make it a crumbly consistency but usually I go to far and it ends up a paste. Dump it all back in the broth and stir, smashing the clumps against the side of the pot.

I freeze it in Food Saver bags, just enough for 2 servings. (I usually get about 6 packages). Its easy enough to put the frozen broth in a pot while I make some small pasta, noodles or rice to add to it.
