It's very rare that I buy a quilt pattern. Usually, I make a quilt from a standard block, like a Log Cabin or Friendship Star which needs no instructions. But every now and then, there is a pattern that strikes my fancy and I just have to have it.
There are only a small number of designers whose patterns I love and I try to keep up with them to see what's new. I just left one of those designers blogs and she showed her latest quilt. I love it, I want it, I have got to have it ..... it costs how much? $154.00 for the pattern only. I don't think so, I don't love it that much. I thought $54.00 was a bit steep for another pattern by another designer, so I past that one up too. Am I still living in the 90's or is the price of things getting out of hand?

Charity Quilt Tops
I have been focusing on making items for my shop for several months now and I am starting to feel guilty. I haven't made something for charity in months. Much of my Etsy shop went to the quiltique at BQE and much of it sold. That's good and bad. It's good I made a bunch of money but now I have lots to make to replace what was sold.
I did, however manage to get these two tops done, while my Etsy shop was on vacation.
This top was made from a collection of hand dyed fabrics that my friend Glenda and I made years ago. I thought it's about time I use it. I used a thrifted sheet for the foundation. Too bad the photo doesn't quite capture the colors well.
This second top was made from the Block Lotto blocks that I won last month. The colors are so bright and cheerful. Both these tops will be donated to a local charity group.

Just One Star
Moda is asking quilters to make Just One Star Block. "The challenge is to piece, quilt and bind 100 quilts in 100 days using the Flag of Valor pattern by Minick and Simpson". These quilts will be given to comfort our soldiers through the Semper Fi Fund.
The block is easy and everyone has some blue or red fabric in their stash. The designers of the block are very clever. The outside triangles are oversized, plus they request that you DO NOT trim the block when you are done. If you have ever attempted to put a quilt together from donated blocks, you would know what a nightmare it is to get a bunch of blocks somewhere near the size required. This block would be great for your own group project.

Sunbonnet Sue Strikes Again
At most quilt shows I have attended, the vendors mostly sell fabric and patterns. While their wares are tempting, you don't see much that you haven't already seen online. I look for the different or unusual, but I rarely find it.
The same is true of this years Broward Quilt Expo. Lots of eye candy, but what to buy? I love goofy socks. I have posted in the past of my collection of Christmas socks but did you know I also have Halloween socks, Valentine socks, and Easter socks (still looking for the missing holidays). What better purchase could I make at a quilt show than quilt socks? Every quilter who knows me knows I am not a big Sue fan. But Sue has been good to me this past year. I have sold many Sue blocks and Sue postcards. I thought it would be appropriate to get Silly Sue Socks.
