Shalom, Shalom,
You'll find Shalom
The nicest greeting you know;
It means bonjour, salud, and skoal
And twice as much as hello.
It means a million lovely things,
Like peace be yours,
Welcome home.
And even when you say goodbye,
You say goodbye with Shalom.

Charity Qults

My box of donated fabrics is still growing and people continue to give me bits and pieces of the best fabrics. It's time to do something about it so a string quilt is a good place to start. It's easy to make quilt blocks for little girls especially when you have tons of pink fabric. Making a quilt for a little boy is not as easy. Here is the start of a boy quilt using many of the already cut strips in my stash. I'm not so crazy about it.

7 Day Caribbean Cruise

I really love cruising. I don't care where we're going, I just like being on the ship, my choice of whatever I want to eat (without having to cook it myself), and just doing nothing. This year, we went aboard the Norwegian Getaway, the newest ship in the fleet being only 4 months old.

She's got 4 wild slides, a bit too much for me. I much preferred the top deck (deck 15) adult only space. It did not have a pool but a waterfall sitting area.

It also has a bar (of course almost every spot on the ship has a bar) and a giant screen movie/TV. You can see it here in this picture of my husband taking a picture of me.

Here's the picture of me he took.

The last picture I will share with you today, is the view of Miami from our cabin on deck 12. We hadn't even set sail yet.

Yellow and Gray Coiled Fabric Bowl

Many of my coiled fabric bowls have been sold and it is time to make some new ones. I'm not very good at explaining how I make things, so I took some photos while making a Gray and Yellow coiled fabric bowl.
After deciding what colors I'm going to use, I'll cut up a bunch of strips measuring 3/4".

Hmmm, they look kind of pink, but really they are gray. I like to start with a darker color (no particular reason why, just the way I do it), and coil it around the end of cotton rope.

Coil it up and zig zag stitch around.

I just keep going, adding different fabrics, around and around, until the coil measures around 5 inches.

At this point I lift the whole thing up on an angle, to get it to start looking like a bowl.

Just keep going around and around while holding the bowl on an angle until it gets to the desired depth.

I've always had trouble finishing it off, until I discovered making a decorative coil finish.

And there you have it. As soon as the sun comes out, I'll take some better photos and add this bowl to my Etsy Shop.

Wish Upon a Card 2014

It's that time of year again when I start thinking about making a postcard or two for the Sister's Oregon Quilt show's Wish Upon a card project. These donated postcards are sold at a silent auction and a sale. The money raised is donated to the Wendys Wish of St Charles Foundation. In addition, as it was last year, Michael Miller has sponsored a fabric challenge. I have received my challenge fabric.

I have several ideas for my entries this year. I may make one, I may make two I may even make three. You'll just have to come back to find out what I will make.

Crossroads

I really don't want to get into the details of what has brought me to this point, for fear of being tagged negative. So I'll just ask a simple question Etsy or Zibbet and why. Do I stay or do I go? One shop the other shop or both?
Maybe it's just paranoia based on the Alex Anderson quilt message boards from so many years ago. Maybe it's the fact that so many have been banned from the Etsy forums and now that forum is so boring with the same old questions everyday. Maybe because the philosophy of let's all be so nice to each other has now invaded the Zibbet forums and folks are getting banned over there. Maybe I should just stay away from forums all together.

Score Part 2

So what have I done with all those fabrics I bought with my Joanns gift certificate? I started out by making some new bowls and table mats.

Some of those Christmas gold fabrics can be found in the middle bowl of all gold fabrics. All the Easter fabrics can be seen in the Easter bowl and it's pretty obvious what was done with the grey and yellow.
Now I just have to figure out if I want to put them in my Etsy shop or my Zibbet shop.
(Yes, some more shameless self promotion)

"This post has been removed"

This phrase is becoming tiresome. There was a post this morning in the Etsy Forums, that started with "I sold a Chanel knockoff.....". The OP went on to tell a tale about the purchase (who she mentions by name). Some posters were concerned that she called out the name of the purchaser, some of us commented that selling Chanel knockoffs is illegal on any venue. All our comments were removed and the thread was closed down.
Many Etsyians are upset about the resellers but you can't mention that on the forums. You can't even say the word China without the wrath of God coming down on you. You cannot tell someone that all that Mickey Mouse, NFL, and Hello Kitty stuff are all trademark/copyright infringements. You cannot mention the hundreds of bogus Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton items that are being sold.
I find all this alarming, even more alarming is the fact that you are not allowed to mention it.

Score!

I don't get many Christmas presents each year. This year, my husband had no clue what to get me (despite dropping a few zillion hints) so he got me a gift certificate to Joann's. As I don't really need anything there I put off going until today. I was armed with a whole bunch of coupons and a list of a few color ideas.
Christmas fabrics were 70% off...holy cow, I got 7 half yards. The 5 Easter fabrics were 30% off and I had 50% off coupons for the remaining 4, not on sale fabrics. I also purchased a picture puzzle at a greatly reduced price (a gift for a friend) and a few small scrapbooking items. After all was said and done, I had a 25% coupon, off the entire purchase. The whole thing came to around $60 and that is the best gift yet.

Classmates dot com

I signed up for Classmates dot com many years ago, before Facebook, before Twitter, Pinterest and all the rest. It was great finding friends I hadn't seen since high school and grammar school. We were all chatting and getting reacquainted. Classmates kept adding more and more features and then came the charges. You could no longer see who was looking at you without paying for it. They would send you these messages taunting you with "want to know who's looking at your profile? Pay Up!"
Then along came Facebook and everyone signed on. We all found each other all over again. We chat about our lives, post pictures of our vacations and grandchildren and complain about politics. Classmates meanwhile is still looking to make a buck by adding more and more useless features.
I went to two different high schools, one of which was an all girls Catholic school. But, I keep getting notes from guys who insist that they graduated from there...impossible. I have gotten notes from guys who say they remember me from my other high school. I don't remember them and they do not appear anywhere in my senior year Yearbook. To make matters worse, I have had guys tell me they went to grammar school with me. From 1st grade to 8th grade, there were the same 52 children in my class. I have a group photo of the entire graduating class...those guys aren't there. What's worse is that they argue with me when I call them out on their BS. Everytime I visit that site, I am bombarded with ads for young, handsome guys looking for date. Oh please, I am way too old for such nonsense.
I'm usually pretty good at figuring out how to navigate websites, but Classmates has become impossible to find anything. So, today I sent them my final notice....Delete me, Delete me, Delete me.
