Tisket-Tasket - April Block

I'm still not happy with my work. I don't think it's so much the actual stitching, but there is something lacking in my prep work. Try as I may, I cannot get the curves so smooth. I end up with points where it should be a smooth edge.

I started buying silk threads years ago in an attempt to improve my applique skills. I have several spools of Tire thread and a few Kinkame. They are both quite nice but expensive. I then discovered YLI silk thread, It is the worst. It shreds after just a few stitches and I'll never buy that stuff again. I have even tried a single embroidery thread. I have lots and lots of those. But they shred badly as well.

On my last trip to Joanns I decided to try something different. I purchase Coats and Clark, Dual Duty, fine polyester covered polyester thread. Yes, I said the nasty P word and you what? I like it better than silk.

intresting, I never would have guessed - but if it is stronger and works best then hey that is the way to go! ;) I'm hoping in a few weeks at the COF retreat in NH, I can get some tips on applique. I missed the class sign up for it but was told that there'd eb free time and that she'd show me...

thanks for the heads up on the YLI - I'll stay away from it!

Love your DMC floss pic. My first box is almost full! :) now I need to buy a 2nd as I continue to collect!
Love from Texas! ~bonnie

Have you ever tried running thread over a bit of bee's wax? I do for all my hand stitching and thread never shreds or tangles.
Your projects are always inspiring, thanks for sharing :)
